About Around the World Herbs

I started my working career in the restaurant industry; first as a cook and working my way to manager. I then went into the computer industry as an IT Technician. But through all those years I have always been interested in plants and how they grow and thrive. I got my chance to work with plants and learn about them when I was laid off from the computer job I had and went to work with Armstrong Growers at one of their greenhouses...

Around the World Herbs

Around the World Herbs has been a ten year learning journey. The first five years were spent learning about production schedules, sales, purchasing of plant material, chemicals, pots, soil, and administrative functions when I worked with Armstrong Growers. The next three years were spent learning about propagation from seed and cuttings, sales, accounts receivable, accounts payable and collections at First Step Greenhouses.

It was during my three years at First Step that I met Elizabeth Jonas, she was growing herbs and flowers in Corona, CA and selling at a swap meet/market in Orange County. I also met Tina Torres from LichenZ Farms; who produces fresh cut herbs. Elizabeth and Tina were both a big inspiration for me to start my own herb business in the Inland Empire.

The last two years have been spent getting set up and deciding what to grow. Whether I should specialize or just do general plants and flowers. Building the greenhouse, buying materials; pots, soil, fertilizer and getting the proper permits and certifications from the State and City. I decided to specialize in herbs and veggie starts and went in search of a venue to sell my plants.

When I heard about the Hemet Farmers Market it was the perfect location. It is close to my home/nursery operation. After I heard about it I went down and spoke with Patricia the market manager and she welcomed me with open arms. I have also recently obtained a space at the Valley Wide Recreation Farmers Market held on Thursday mornings from 8am to 12pm.

All plants are hand grown by me from start to finish. I mix the soil, pot it, seed it, water it and take it to market when it is ready to be sold. I want to thank my wife of 15 years for standing by me through this time of starting my business and putting up with the soil filled pants, pots, plants every where and helping me at the Hemet Market.

Our mission is to grow the finest plants possible at an affordable price to inspire people to know where their food comes from, and to inspire new gardener's and seasoned gardener's alike.
